Dock 72 at Brooklyn Navy Yard
A range of amenity spaces at Dock 72 attract tenants to the newest addition at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a former industrial site transformed into a hub for creatives and tech. The state-of-the-art building presents many opportunities for people to dine, exercise, socialize in spaces that enjoy water and city views in a structure that recalls the ships once built at the site. The amenities generate activity that celebrates the Yard’s rebirth, which was designed in collaboration with a multi-talented group of locally sourced artists, artisans, and fabricators.
The colors, materials, artifacts, and stories reflect the history of the site and represent its new uses. Expressed in neon yellow, a depiction of a plimsoll line greets all who come “aboard.” Positioned on the hull of a ship, the line indicates the levels of water that a ship crosses, ranging from deep water, to summer, fresh, and tropical water. A long “expressway” that runs the length of the ground floor is populated by four differently furnished, custom seating and socializing experiences, each one defined by a site-specific mural that depicts these different water levels as interpreted by local artists.
A food court activates the first floor, along with a lounge/bar that leads to an outdoor terrace and basketball court; many of these activities can be seen from an overlook on the second floor. A reception area/juice bar greets employees who are working out in the fully equipped gym, lounge, and co-working spaces.
The rooftop conference space offers a large town hall experience that can be divided into three separate spaces by folding retractable walls. A separate window-side lounge area has a bar where people can relax during breakout sessions. The design of the rooftop terrace replicates the carefree feeling of being on a transatlantic cruise.
