Savoy Club at the GM Building
The Savoy Club is a high-end amenity space in the GM Building, one of Manhattan’s most prestigious commercial addresses. To enrich the work life of the building’s impressive list of tenants, the club features a conference suite, food and beverage venue, and fitness and wellness center in a convenient second-floor location. The timeless mid-century modern design of architect Edward Durrel Stone, in particular the building’s classic lobby, is celebrated and reflected in the club’s upscale, tailored design.
Within an L-shaped space, the programs are interconnected. The food and beverage area is flanked by the conference and fitness centers, with food prep areas in the back. At the club’s entrance is a “grab and go” area.
The Savoy Club’s interior takes inspiration and builds upon its context within the GM Building. Motifs found in the building’s lobby—like patterned polygonal ceiling inlays—are brought to the amenity space bringing cohesion and giving definition to the soaring ceiling heights. Custom nesting coffee tables with chamfered bases also reflect this geometry. Additionally, the building architecture’s tone-on-tone material language was adopted but in a warmer, softer taupe palette. In contrast, the color of the furniture is more saturated and recalls the flourishes common to 1960s-era GM cars.
While paying homage to the past, the club is outfitted with current technology, including full spectrum lighting changes color throughout the day to imitate circadian rhythms and promote wellbeing.
Multiple seating configurations in the adjoining parlor and library lounge are available for tenants and conference attendees who want to dine in, relax, and socialize. The lounges open into the conference space, which can be configured as one large space or divided into three separate rooms.
The fitness and wellness center has spaces for individual workouts, group classes, and physical therapy. Well-appointed locker rooms have showers, ensuite changing areas, grooming bars—all features typical of luxurious spas.
